Following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) lifting of the ban on 2027 presidential and National Assembly election campaigns, prominent Nigerian presidential candidates have begun coming out publicly to declare their manifestos to voters.
While the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, declared his intention to restore the fuel subsidy, President Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) showcased his administration’s achievements as his initial step to market himself to the Nigerian populace.
As a first step to promote his policies, plans, and market himself to Nigerians following the lifting of the campaign ban by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, President Bola Tinubu directed the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, to brief Nigerians on the successes achieved by his administration since its inauguration to date, as well as outline the remaining tasks ahead.
Tinubu stated that the difficult decisions his administration boldly took have today yielded positive results, adding that Nigerians deserve to know the changes that have occurred.
He said, “This is your government, your country, and this is what we have done for you.”
On his part, Atiku Abubakar has publicly pledged stated that he would restore the fuel subsidy if elected, the first major pronouncement he has made so far.
In a media interview via Facebook, Atiku said he would reinstate the fuel subsidy—something he had previously pledged to remove during his 2023 campaign.
He pointed out that after the subsidy removal, Nigerians saw no tangible benefits despite the huge revenues the federal government generated from it, vowing to prosecute anyone who misappropriated the funds derived from the country’s subsidy removal.
From the media office of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, his spokesman Idris Zekeri urged Nigerians to assess all presidential candidates based on their track records, ideologies, competence, and character.
The media office stated that Obi’s campaign will focus on transforming Nigeria from a consumption-based to a production-based economy, reducing the cost of governance, improving education, healthcare, and security, as well as creating opportunities for Nigerian youth.
While President Bola Tinubu relies on his administration’s achievements to market himself to Nigerians, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are leveraging what they view as the government’s failures to seek the votes of Nigerians in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
