The Kingmakers of Langai District in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State have appealed to the state Commissioner, Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Ephraim Usman to promptly issue the official letter confirming the selection and appointment of the District Head of Langai District, held on Tuesday 19/5/2026 at the Traditional Council Office Mangu LGA Secretariat.
The kingmakers made this known in a letter sent to the Commissioner duly signed by Mallam Abdullahi Haruna (Madakin Langai); Alhaji Tijjaani Yusuf Sambo (Galadiman Langai); Idris Danbaba (Pakachin Langai); Mr. John Tamba Tagwai (Tikam Langai) and Sunusi Ibrahim Sambo (Barayan Langai).
The kingmakers stressed that the lack of a formally recognized and gazetted District Head has created a leadership gap that is affecting the effective management of community affairs.
“This gap is of greater concern given the prevailing security situation and the need for timely traditional leadership in mediating disputes, engaging with security agencies, and coordinating government programs at the community level,” the statement said.
“The absence of a substantive District Head limits the community’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to these challenges.”
“The appointment and formal recognition of a District Head will provide a clear leadership structure, improve collaboration between the community, the Local Government, security agencies, and the State Government, and restore public confidence in traditional administration.
“In view of the above, we most respectfully request that your office kindly expedite action and release the official letter of appointment of the duly selected District Head of Langai District, subject to the fulfillment of all necessary procedures.
The Kingmakers, added that “We make this appeal in the interest of peace, security, stability, and the continued development of Langai District and Mangu Local Government Area. We are confident in the commitment of the Plateau State Government to upholding and strengthening traditional institutions across the State.”
