Food Prices Rise Across Nigerian Markets – Week 29, July 2026

DCL Hausa’s latest market survey shows mixed movements in food commodity prices across selected markets in Nigeria. While the prices of some staple foods declined this week, others recorded increases or remained unchanged, even as farmers continue to complain about the high cost of fertiliser ahead of the farming season.

Key observations this week

  • Maize prices declined in Saminaka (Kaduna) and Zamani (Adamawa), while remaining stable in Dawanau (Kano) and Mai’adua (Katsina).
  • Local rice (Jamila) became more expensive in Giwa (Kaduna), Mai’adua (Katsina) and Zamani (Adamawa), but remained unchanged in Dawanau (Kano) and Saminaka (Kaduna).
  • Imported rice recorded increases in Giwa (Kaduna) and Adamawa, while Dawanau (Kano) saw a slight decline.
  • Beans experienced the sharpest increase in Dawanau (Kano), while Saminaka (Kaduna) recorded a ₦5,000 drop.
  • Spaghetti prices remained unchanged across all monitored markets this week.
  • Overall, the survey indicates mixed price movements, with modest declines in maize but continued upward pressure on rice and beans in several markets, despite farmers’ concerns over rising fertiliser costs.
