Kano to crack down on retired civil servants on govt payroll

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has given retired civil servants still occupying government offices 48 hours to vacate, warning that those who continue to receive salaries after retirement will be investigated.

The commission also directed all Permanent Secretaries and Directors of Administration in the state civil service to submit, before Friday, October 10, 2026, lists of officers who had retired by age or years of service but were still occupying government offices.

In a statement issued in Kani and signed by its Acting Executive Chairman, Hafsat Ada’u Kutama, the commission said the action followed a directive by the Head of Civil Service in Circular No. 10/2026, dated October 6, 2026, directing all retired officers to hand over immediately.

The PCACC described the continued stay of retired officers in service, collection of salaries and use of government property after statutory retirement as violations of the state’s Civil Service Rules.

It warned that any officer found to have received, or aided the receipt of, salary after retirement would be investigated.

The commission also announced a confidential whistleblower channel through which civil servants can report retired officers who remain in office.

It urged members of the public and civil servants with relevant information to contact the commission.

The PCACC said the enforcement was aimed at ensuring compliance with the Head of Service directive and preventing what it described as financial losses to the state arising from continued payment of salaries to officers who had exited the service.
