Amnesty International, Nigeria has condemned the recent brutal killing of an innocent woman, known as Ummul Khairi at Maraban Jos near Kaduna, due to false allegation of child theft, as unlawful and barbaric.
Mallam Isa Sanusi, the Director of the organization in Nigeria stated this during an exclusive interview with DCL English.
The Amnesty International Director, who described incidents of jungle justice as very serious problem, believed that Ummulkairi’s murder is a pointer to the fact that no one is safe.
He further noted that before now, we used to hear issues of jungle justice in the south, wondering how we wake up here in the north only to find it with us.
Mallam Isa Sanusi therefore urged all stakeholders to rise and address the problem by speaking against it, as according to him, silence about injustice is complicity.
He said when religious, traditional, community and political leaders speak against the ugly trend, it will go a long way in discouraging people from perpetrating it in future.
The Amnesty International official believed that prevention should be the topmost priority now, more especially when the police is being accused of complicity in Ummul Khairi’s case.
He therefore suggested that the police should be given special training on how to prevent future recurrence of the situation.
