The National Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, is missing from the final list of governorship candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 election.
The list, signed by INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, contains 17 governorship candidates and their running mates from political parties contesting the election in Kano, but does not feature Gwarzo or any candidate under the NDC.
A review of the three-page document shows that the candidates listed include Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abacha Muhammed Sani of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and candidates from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and other parties.
The list also includes candidates from parties such as the Action Alliance (AA), African Action Congress (AAC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and New Democratic Party (NDP), among others.
However, the NDC and its alleged governorship candidate Gwarzo, are absent from the document.
The list provides the names, political parties, ages, genders and educational qualifications of the candidates and their deputy governorship candidates.
INEC has not stated in the document why the NDC candidate is missing from the list.
It is therefore unclear from the published list whether the omission is connected to the party’s nomination process, documentation or any other issue.
The development raises questions about the NDC’s participation in the Kano governorship election, although the list alone does not establish the reason for the candidate’s absence.
