Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, has called for collective efforts to address Nigeria’s security challenges and ensure a credible 2027 general election.
Yari, who was chairman of the occasion at the 8th edition of the Blueprint Newspapers Public Lecture, Impact Series and Award Ceremony, made the call on Tuesday at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The former governor commended Blueprint Newspapers for organising the event and for bringing what he described as an important subject to the attention of Nigerians.
He said security should not be regarded as the sole responsibility of the President and security agencies, stressing that every Nigerian has a role to play.
“Nigeria should come together, everybody’s hands should be on deck. Security is not the President’s duty or the security agencies’ duty alone, but we should come together collectively,” Yari said.
He urged Nigerians to work together in tackling insecurity and other challenges confronting the country.
Yari also expressed optimism about the credibility of the 2027 general election.
He said the integrity of the 2027 election would be one of the best, stressing the need for collective commitment from political actors, government institutions and citizens to ensure a credible electoral process.
The 8th edition of the Blueprint Newspapers Public Lecture, Impact Series and Award Ceremony attracted several prominent government officials, political leaders and other dignitaries.
Among those who attended were the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda; the party’s deputy national chairmen and other senior political figures.
Several Directors-General of ministries, departments and agencies, Special Assistants to the President and chief executives of various organisations also attended the event.
The ceremony is being held as part of Blueprint Newspapers’ annual platform for discussing major national issues and recognising individuals and organisations for their contributions to national development.
